February 14, 2024- During 2024, 150 students from Mejillones will have the opportunity to delve into the II Edition of the Green Hydrogen Educational Workshops led by MAE Company. These workshops will explore the essential aspects of this innovative industry.
Mejillones' technical-professional students were the protagonists of the first version of these workshops, carried out between the second and third quarter of the last year. There, they learned crucial matters, such as climate change and the transition towards clean energies, and acquired a complete training experience.
"For us, this project was, without a doubt, an opportunity that allowed us to meet first-hand local experts, such as UC teachers. These workshops helped us obtain our environmental certification, with a license level granted in 2023. We hope that this instance is repeated since it not only benefits our students but also our teachers because it allows us to be updated with what is happening in today's world", said Lorenzo Rojas, principal of Juan José Latorre Education Complex.
Simultaneously, the teachers also participated in training talks, while 183 technical-professional students from the Mejillones IGP Institute participated in the trainings.
The president of the Ferrocarril No. 8 neighborhood association, Jannette González, said: "As a leader, I appreciate that they consider us and listen to our recommendations. It was at the first meeting when the company introduced itself, where we recommended being able to train the young people of our district about this new industry. We were very happy when they told us how well the workshops turned out".
This initiative was born as a response to the request of Mejillones social organizations, which expressed the need for more information about this new industry. After the positive evaluation of the workshops' first edition, MAE has announced that this initiative will continue incorporating innovative elements, such as a gender approach, to promote women's participation in the industry.
